Bighorn Sheep

There are very few Bighorn Sheep in the Black Hills. If you draw a tag you may not draw another tag. If you draw a bighorn sheep tag in the Black Hills, consider yourself lucky. I have not hunted them in the hills yet but they are on my bucket list. I also want to shoot a Dall Sheep in Alaska and Stone Sheep in the Rocky Mountains..

A male Bighorn Sheep can weigh up to 300 pounds. The horns on a Bighorn Sheep can weigh up to 30 pounds. They are a very neat animal and would look great mounted on my wall. The male sheep are called rams and the female sheep are called ewes. All wild sheep like to be in high elevations and are normally found in rocky terrain. This makes them fun and challenging to hunt.

  1. My dad loves hunting sheep! He has killed 3 Dall sheep, 4 or 5 Big horn and one Stone sheep!
He just drew a Desert Big horn tag in Nevada so if he gets one he will complete his grand slam!

    1. That is awesome and I want to have a grand slam someday. Some of those tags are extremely hard to get.

  4. It would be fun to hunt some of these more exotic animals. Deer have such a high population, they arent as exciting to hunt because you see them all the time.

  8. Do you mean that if you draw a tag, you may not ever draw another in your life? I didn't realize there were so few in the area.
